NEW DELHI: Four youths returning from a Friday-night party at a five-star discotheque in Gurgaon allegedly tried to rape a 28-year-year old woman from Uganda in their car. When the woman resisted violently, they dumped her on a road in Vasant Kunj in the early hours of Saturday. All of them have been arrested.
The woman, who has been in India since the past one year for medical treatment, was treated at AIIMS Trauma Centre for bruises on her faces.
The accused, from Mayur Vihar in east Delhi, have been identified as Prakhar, Gagandeep, Swapnil and Shidhesh, sources said. While one of them is an engineering student, two are studying at a hotel management school and the fourth is a mass communication student in a university in Delhi, police said. The car has been impounded, too.
They have been booked under charges of abduction, molestation and attempt to rape, and causing hurt, police sources said. They were produced before a magistrate and have been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
The incident took place around 5am when the youths were returning from the late-night party. They met the woman at the discotheque itself. While leaving the party, they found her standing outside the hotel and offered to drop her to her house in south Delhi. On the way, they began to misbehave with her and she objected. Suddenly, the youths turned their car towards NH-8 and tried to rape her. The victim alleged that the youths also beat her up and spoke among themselves about taking her to a flat in east Delhi.
However, the woman kept protesting, prompting the youths to dump her on the road near Mahipalpur. They tried to flee but she caught hold of one of them and dialled 100. Passersby, too, gathered at the spot. The PCR van soon reached the spot and arrested the youth. The others were caught on the basis of the information given by him.
